Nicholas Prime

Smith Richardson Predoctoral Fellow
“The U.S. Naval War College and the Evolution of American Naval Strategy, 1945-1975”

Prime has been tapped for the Smith-Richardson Foundation-funded predoctoral fellowship designated for projects in maritime, naval, and strategic studies. Prime’s dissertation at King’s College, London, focuses on group of key scholars (Wylie, Eccles, Rosinski) who formed a distinct intellectual and strategic movement in the U.S. after the Second World War. This group, working out of the U.S. Naval War College, saw the need for a new conceptual framework for the “control” of military operations below the level of nuclear war. Their efforts, until now overlooked, informed shifts in military thinking that resonate to this day.
